THROUGHAM COURT GARDEN - COTSWOLDS, GLOUCESTERSHIRE

A new modern country garden developed since 2000 and constantly evolving. Inspired by contemporary scientific facts and theories and the patterns and mathematical number sequences found in nature that are used symbolically and metaphorically. There is the Cosmic Evolution Garden (influenced by the 6 numbers that govern the evolution of the universe) with number-engraved stone Cosmic Spheres (planets); Eclipse Shadow Bed with Cosmic Planting; Fibonacci’s Walk and Pico Mound with ornamental grasses. We have also designed several structures for the garden: the Black Hole Seat, Entrance into Chaos Gate (based on the mathematical Chaos Theory), Molecule Seat (a fun bench with carbon atom feet and filials), Fibonacci Jumps (steel hoops that jump along the ground in a Fibonacci sequence) and Energies Cascade (a slate sculpture). The Cotswold landscape is borrowed both physically and visually. A new perennial planted mound with grasses creates a dramatic area of colour blending with the juxtaposition of plants into startling and subtle groupings. Chiral Terrace has just been added and a new landform is planned for 2010. A newly renovated barn with a gable window overlooks Holly Brook Valley and a new border "Rusty Border" with dramatic planting in warm brwon/orange tones.

Featured on HTV West and Discovery Channel and in The Garden magazine (July 2008) and The Sunday Times (17 August 2008). The garden has a star in the Good Gardens Guide and is a Royal Horticultural Society Recommended Garden in the RHS Garden Finder 2008/9.

“ A fascinating garden – I have seen no other garden like it. The composition …………is absolutely brilliant”

I shall remember my visit to you amongst the dozens of other gardens which merge in the memory. It is beautifully designed and maintained”
