MAGGIE'S CHELTENHAM: BILL PYE

At the end of September Maggie's Cheltenham opened a stunning 27 metre long, polished stainless steel water sculpture. Designed by Bill Pye (see right) it was inspired by the landscape concept by Facerhoffman Landscape Design in which it sits: the curving mathematical Sigmoid Curve. Called 'Arroyo' (representing "a journey through life") the sculpture curves and dips through the landscape with a water 'event' at each end.

DESIGN AT THROUGHAM COURT GARDEN

A 'viewing' terrace at Througham Court called CHIRAL TERRACE is now completed. Inspiration comes from the concept of molecular chirality or handedness.

ANATOMY OF THE BLACK SWAN GATE

ANATOMY OF THE BLACK SWAN GATE is a new entrance gate to Througham Court garden. The current global financial crisis; the threat of human and animal disease pandemics, made me start thinking about the public's perception of risk and probability. The gate's design metaphorically adresses the impact of risk and highly improbable random events (Black Swans).
